• Begin your journey north via the Addis–Gojjam Road (A3).

• Enjoy the scenic 110 km (~2.5–3 hours) drive through the Ethiopian highlands, passing traditional villages and farmland.

🔹 10:00 AM – Arrive at Debre Libanos Monastery

• Visit the historic Debre Libanos Monastery, founded in the 13th century by Saint Tekle Haymanot, one of Ethiopia’s most venerated saints.

• Explore the modern church built in the 1960s, with beautiful stained-glass windows and religious iconography.

• Visit the tomb of Saint Tekle Haymanot and, if accessible, the old cave hermitage where the saint is said to have meditated for 29 years.

🔹 11:30 AM – Walk to the Portuguese Bridge & Jemma River Gorge

• Short drive (or walk) to the Portuguese Bridge, believed to have been built in the 16th or 17th century.

• Walk across the bridge and admire the breathtaking views of the Jemma River Gorge, often referred to as the “Grand Canyon of Ethiopia.”

• Spot gelada baboons, endemic birds, and enjoy the refreshing air.

🔹 01:00 PM – Picnic Lunch or Local Restaurant

• Enjoy a packed picnic lunch with a view of the canyon (recommended)

• Eat at a local restaurant near the monastery or the small town of Debre Libanos (simple but authentic Ethiopian food).

🔹 02:00 PM – Optional Nature Walk or Visit to Cave Monastery

• Optional hike along the cliffside trails for stunning panoramic views and wildlife spotting.

• If interested and time allows, hike to the cave of Saint Tekle Haymanot (moderate hike, ~30–45 mins round-trip), considered a holy pilgrimage site with a small spring.

🔹 03:30 PM – Begin Return Drive to Addis Ababa

• Enjoy photo stops along the way and take in the highland views.

🔹 06:00 PM – Arrive Back in Addis Ababa

• Drop off at your hotel.
