Day 1: Arrival in Addis Ababa – The New Flower

Upon arrival in Addis Ababa, you will be warmly welcomed and transferred to your hotel. After some time to refresh, begin your introduction to Ethiopia’s capital with a drive up Mount Entoto, offering spectacular panoramic views over Addis Ababa. Continue to the National Museum of Ethiopia, where you will discover fascinating archaeological treasures, including the famous fossil remains of Lucy, one of humanity’s most significant early ancestors. Depending on your arrival time, you may also visit other highlights of the city.

Day 2: Addis Ababa – Debre Libanos – Bahir Dar

After breakfast, begin your scenic drive toward Bahir Dar, passing through the beautiful highlands and forested landscapes surrounding Addis Ababa. En route, visit Debre Libanos Monastery, one of Ethiopia’s most important religious centers. Founded in the 13th century by Saint Tekle Haymanot, the monastery is surrounded by dramatic mountains and lush scenery. Continue your journey through the Ethiopian highlands toward Bahir Dar and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this lakeside city.

Day 3: Bahir Dar – Lake Tana Monasteries

After breakfast, embark on a boat excursion across Lake Tana, Ethiopia’s largest lake and the source region of the Blue Nile. Cruise across the lake toward the Zege Peninsula and visit Ura Kidane Mihret Monastery, one of the most famous and beautifully decorated monasteries in the area. Explore its remarkable religious paintings, manuscripts and centuries-old traditions before returning to Bahir Dar.

 Day 4: Bahir Dar – Gondar – The Camelot of Africa

After breakfast, drive toward Gondar, the former imperial capital of Ethiopia. Founded in the 17th century by Emperor Fasiladas, Gondar became a center of Ethiopian royalty, architecture and culture. Upon arrival, explore the famous Royal Enclosure, including the magnificent castles and palaces built by Ethiopian emperors. Continue with visits to the Bath of Fasiladas and other historical attractions before enjoying the evening in Gondar.

Day 5: Gondar – Excursion to the Simien Mountains

Today, travel toward the spectacular Simien Mountains, one of Ethiopia’s most dramatic landscapes. Drive approximately 122 km to Buyit Ras, the gateway to the mountains. Enjoy breathtaking views of deep valleys, rugged escarpments and towering peaks. The area is famous for its endemic wildlife, including the Gelada monkey and, with luck, the Walia ibex. Spend time enjoying short walks and panoramic viewpoints before returning to your accommodation.

Day 6: Debark – Axum – The Mysterious Monoliths

After an early breakfast, depart from the Simien region and travel toward Axum, one of Ethiopia’s oldest and most historically significant cities. With a history stretching back more than two millennia, Axum was once the heart of a powerful ancient kingdom. Explore the famous Axum Obelisks, ancient stelae fields, archaeological sites and the historic Church of St. Mary of Zion. Learn about Axum’s connection to Ethiopian Christianity and the country’s ancient civilization.

Day 7: Axum – Mekele

After breakfast, depart Axum and travel toward Mekele, the capital of the Tigray region. The journey takes you through spectacular northern Ethiopian landscapes, with mountain scenery, valleys and traditional rural communities along the way. Upon arrival in Mekele, check in to your hotel and enjoy some time to relax or explore the city.

Day 8: Mekele – Alamata – Lalibela

After breakfast, begin the journey from Mekele to Lalibela, passing through the beautiful landscapes of northern Ethiopia. Travel via Alamata and continue south through the Ethiopian highlands. Enjoy the changing scenery and rural landscapes along the way before arriving in Lalibela, one of Ethiopia’s most extraordinary historical destinations.

Day 9: Explore Lalibela – The Eighth Wonder of the World

Today is dedicated to exploring the magnificent rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Ethiopia’s greatest architectural treasures. Carved directly into volcanic rock more than 800 years ago, these extraordinary churches were created during the reign of King Lalibela. Explore some of the most famous churches, including Bete Medhane Alem, Bete Maryam, Bete Giyorgis and other remarkable sanctuaries. Walk through the ancient passageways and courtyards while learning about the spiritual significance of Lalibela and its continuing importance as a pilgrimage destination.

Day 10: Yimrehane Kristos Excursion & Lalibela Churches

After breakfast, take an excursion to Yimrehane Kristos, one of the most remarkable medieval churches near Lalibela. Set within a dramatic mountain environment, this exceptional structure demonstrates the sophisticated Axumite architectural tradition, combining stone and timber construction. Return to Lalibela in the afternoon and continue exploring the remaining churches, including Bete Gabriel-Rufael, Bete Emmanuel and Bete Abba Libanos.  Day 11: Lalibela – Kombolcha

After breakfast, begin your drive toward Kombolcha, passing through spectacular highland scenery and traditional Ethiopian villages. Along the way, visit Lake Hayq and the historic Hayq Estifanos Monastery, traditionally associated with Saint Abune Moa and medieval Ethiopian Christianity. Continue to Kombolcha for an overnight stay.

Day 12: Kombolcha – Awash National Park

After breakfast, continue eastward toward Awash National Park, one of Ethiopia’s most accessible wildlife destinations. The park encompasses approximately 756 square kilometers of diverse landscapes, including acacia woodland, grassland, volcanic scenery and the Awash River. Upon arrival, enjoy a wildlife excursion through the park. Look for species such as oryx, kudu, gazelles, baboons and warthogs, as well as a variety of bird species. Depending on conditions and arrival time, visit viewpoints around the spectacular Awash Falls.

Day 13: Awash National Park – Dire Dawa – Harar

After breakfast, drive toward Dire Dawa, an important commercial and cultural city in eastern Ethiopia. Continue to Harar, one of Ethiopia’s most fascinating historic cities. Explore the ancient walled city of Harar Jugol, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its narrow alleyways, colorful houses, traditional markets and distinctive Islamic architecture. Visit the Harari Cultural Museum, the historic Rimbaud House, local markets and the old city walls associated with Emir Nur. In the evening, experience one of Harar’s most famous traditions the Harar Hyena Feeding Ceremony where local hyena handlers feed wild hyenas near the city.

Day 14: Harar – Babile Camel Market – Valley of Marvels

Today, take an excursion to Babile, famous for its spectacular landscapes and one of Ethiopia’s most impressive camel markets. The camel market is particularly lively on Mondays and Thursdays, so the itinerary should be scheduled accordingly. Observe local traders, camel herders and the traditional livestock trading culture of eastern Ethiopia. Continue to the Babile Valley of Marvels, where dramatic rock formations create a spectacular natural landscape. After the excursion, return to Harar for your final evening.

Day 15: Harar – Dire Dawa – Addis Ababa – Departure

After breakfast, drive from Harar to Dire Dawa, passing through Aweday, one of Ethiopia’s famous chat trading centers. Continue to Dire Dawa Airport for your domestic flight to Addis Ababa. Upon arrival in Addis Ababa, depending on your international flight schedule, you will have some free time for last-minute shopping or relaxation before being transferred to Bole International Airport for your departure flight.
