Explore Biete Gabriel-Rafael, Biete Merkorios, Biete Amanuel and Biete Abba Libanos, each showcasing the remarkable craftsmanship and spiritual heritage of medieval Ethiopia. Continue to the spectacular Biete Giyorgis (Church of St. George), Lalibela’s most famous church. Carved completely from a single block of rock and shaped like a cross, it is one of the most iconic monuments in Ethiopia. Take time to admire the church from the surrounding trenches and learn about its religious importance and the traditions associated with it.
