4-Day South Omo Valley Cultural Discovery Tour

Day 01: Fly Addis Ababa – Jinka – Mursi Tribe – Turmi

After breakfast, transfer to Addis Ababa Bole International Airport for your domestic flight to Jinka, the gateway to Ethiopia’s fascinating South Omo Valley. Upon arrival, drive into Mago National Park to visit the iconic Mursi Tribe, renowned for the lip plates worn by women and their rich cultural traditions. Spend time learning about their unique customs, traditional homes, and pastoral lifestyle while interacting respectfully with the community. After lunch, continue your scenic drive through the stunning landscapes of the Omo Valley to Turmi, the homeland of the Hamer Tribe. Day 02: Karo & Dassanech Tribes – Turmi

After breakfast, drive to the village of Korcho to visit the Karo Tribe, one of the smallest ethnic groups in the Omo Valley. The Karo are internationally known for their elaborate body painting using natural pigments and their spectacular location overlooking the Omo River. Continue south to Omorate, where you will cross the Omo River by traditional wooden boat to meet the Dassanech Tribe, whose livelihood depends on fishing, livestock, and seasonal farming. Learn about their traditions, architecture, and daily life before returning to Turmi in the late afternoon. Overnight in Turmi.

Day 03: Konso Cultural Landscape – Arba Minch

After breakfast, depart for Konso, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its remarkable terraced hillsides, centuries-old stone-walled villages, and sustainable agricultural practices. Explore a traditional Konso Village, visit the cultural museum, and learn about the community’s unique social organization, wooden ancestral statues known as Waga, and rich cultural heritage. After lunch, continue to Arba Minch, enjoying beautiful views of the Great Rift Valley along the way. Overnight in Arba Minch.

Day 04: Lake Chamo Boat Safari – Dorze Village – Fly to Addis Ababa

After breakfast, enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Chamo, where you will see Africa’s largest Nile crocodiles, hippos, and numerous species of water birds in their natural habitat. Continue to the nearby Dorze Village, located in the Guge Highlands, where you will discover the Dorze people’s remarkable bamboo houses, traditional weaving techniques, and the preparation of Kocho, a staple food made from the Enset (false banana) plant.
