Day 1: Addis Ababa – Lalibela – Rock-Hewn Churches

Take a morning flight from Addis Ababa to Lalibela. Upon arrival, meet your guide and transfer to your hotel. After lunch, begin exploring the famous Lalibela Rock-Hewn Churches. Visit the impressive Bete Medhane Alem, Bete Maryam, Bete Maskal and Bete Denagel, walking through the ancient passages and courtyards connecting the churches. Continue to Bete Giyorgis (St. George), the iconic cross-shaped church carved deep into the rock.

Overnight: Lalibela.

Day 2: Lalibela – Full-Day Heritage & Local Culture

After breakfast, continue your exploration of Lalibela’s remarkable churches, including Bete Amanuel, Bete Gabriel-Rufael and Bete Mercoreus. Learn about the religious history and architectural techniques behind these extraordinary monuments, which remain active places of worship. In the afternoon, explore the surrounding countryside and visit a traditional village. Experience an authentic Ethiopian coffee ceremony and learn about local life, agriculture and traditions.

Day 3: Lalibela – Addis Ababa – Hawassa

After breakfast, transfer to Lalibela Airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa. Upon arrival, continue by road toward Hawassa (Awassa), a beautiful city on the shores of Lake Hawassa. Enjoy the scenic drive through Ethiopia’s Great Rift Valley, passing lakes, farmland and highland landscapes. Arrive in Hawassa in the afternoon and relax at your hotel. In the evening, enjoy a peaceful walk along the lake shore and watch the sunset.

Day 4: Hawassa – Lake Hawassa & Fish Market – Nature Experience

Start the morning with a visit to the lively Hawassa Fish Market, where local fishermen bring in their daily catch. Experience the colorful atmosphere and learn about the traditional fishing culture of the lake. Continue with a boat excursion on Lake Hawassa, providing opportunities to see hippos, pelicans, marabou storks, kingfishers and other waterbirds. After lunch, enjoy some free time around the lake or explore the nearby area. The relaxed atmosphere of Hawassa makes it an excellent place to experience Ethiopia beyond its major historic sites.

Day 5: Hawassa – Addis Ababa – City & Cultural Experience

After breakfast, begin the drive back to Addis Ababa through the scenic Rift Valley. On the way, enjoy views of the Ethiopian countryside and, depending on time, make a short stop at one of the viewpoints or Rift Valley lakes. Upon arrival in Addis Ababa, visit the National Museum to see the famous fossil remains of Lucy, followed by Holy Trinity Cathedral or a local craft market. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Ethiopian dinner with cultural music and dancing.

Day 6: Addis Ababa – Debre Libanos – Portuguese Bridge

After breakfast, drive north toward Debre Libanos, one of Ethiopia’s most important historic monastic centers. Visit Debre Libanos Monastery, traditionally associated with Saint Tekle Haymanot, and explore the surrounding religious sites and peaceful grounds. Learn about the monastery’s long history and its importance in Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity. Continue to the spectacular Portuguese Bridge, a historic stone bridge spanning a dramatic gorge. Enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and look for Gelada monkeys and birds in the area. Return to Addis Ababa in the late afternoon.

Day 7: Addis Ababa – Final Cultural Experience & Departure

After breakfast, enjoy some free time depending on your departure schedule. Visit Mount Entoto for panoramic views of Addis Ababa, or explore a local market for Ethiopian handicrafts, coffee and souvenirs. Enjoy a final Ethiopian coffee ceremony and transfer to Bole International Airport for your departure. End of Service
