3 Days Gondar Tours

Discover the fascinating history and culture of Gondar, once the capital of the Ethiopian Empire. This three-day journey combines the city’s magnificent royal castles and historic churches with the spectacular landscapes and wildlife of the nearby Simien Mountains.

Day 1: Addis Ababa – Gondar – Royal Heritage

Take a morning flight from Addis Ababa to Gondar. Upon arrival, meet your guide and transfer to your hotel. After lunch, begin your city tour with Fasil Ghebbi, the famous royal enclosure where Ethiopian emperors once lived and ruled. Explore the impressive castles, palaces and historic buildings that reflect Gondar’s remarkable imperial past. Continue to Fasilides’ Bath, an important historic site and the center of Gondar’s famous Timket celebrations. In the afternoon, visit Debre Berhan Selassie Church, renowned for its beautifully painted ceiling featuring rows of angel faces. End the day with a walk through Gondar’s historic neighborhoods and local market.

Day 2: Gondar – Simien Mountains National Park – Gondar

After an early breakfast, drive toward Simien Mountains National Park, one of Ethiopia’s most spectacular natural destinations. Enter the park and continue toward Sankaber, enjoying breathtaking views of dramatic escarpments, deep valleys and rugged mountain peaks. Take a scenic trek through the highlands and look for Gelada monkeys, endemic birds and other wildlife. Depending on weather and trail conditions, continue to one of the park’s scenic viewpoints for panoramic photographs. After lunch, begin the drive back to Gondar. Arrive in the late afternoon and enjoy a relaxing evening.

Day 3: Gondar – Historic Churches & Cultural Experience – Addis Ababa

After breakfast, continue exploring Gondar’s cultural heritage. Visit Qusquam Church and Monastery or other historic sites depending on your interests and available time. Take time to explore local craft shops and markets, where you can find traditional Ethiopian handicrafts, textiles and souvenirs. Enjoy a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony before transferring to Gondar Airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have time for a farewell lunch or additional sightseeing in Addis Ababa. End of tour
