This carefully designed 15-day Ethiopia tour combines the country’s most remarkable historical sites, living cultures, spectacular mountain scenery and diverse landscapes. It brings together Lake Tana, Blue Nile Falls, Gondar’s royal heritage, the Simien Mountains, Lalibela’s rock-hewn churches and the fascinating cultures of southern Ethiopia. Ethiopia’s official tourism sources highlight these destinations among the country’s major cultural and natural attractions, while UNESCO recognizes Lalibela, Gondar, Konso, the Lower Omo Valley, Simien and Bale Mountains among Ethiopia’s World Heritage properties.
Day 1: Arrival in Addis Ababa – City & Cultural Experience
Arrive in Addis Ababa, where you will be welcomed by your guide and transferred to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, begin your Ethiopian experience with a visit to Mount Entoto, offering panoramic views over the capital, followed by the National Museum, home to the famous fossil remains of Lucy. Continue to Holy Trinity Cathedral and explore one of Addis Ababa’s lively markets or craft centers. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Ethiopian dinner accompanied by cultural music and dancing.

Day 2: Addis Ababa – Bahir Dar – Lake Tana Boat Excursion
Take a morning flight from Addis Ababa to Bahir Dar, the beautiful city on the shores of Lake Tana. After checking in, enjoy a boat excursion on Lake Tana, Ethiopia’s largest lake. Visit some of the historic island and lakeside monasteries, where you can admire centuries-old religious paintings, manuscripts and church architecture. In the afternoon, take a relaxing walk along the lake shore and enjoy the atmosphere of Bahir Dar.

Day 3: Bahir Dar – Blue Nile Falls – Gondar
After breakfast, drive to the spectacular Blue Nile Falls, one of Ethiopia’s best-known natural attractions. Walk through the surrounding countryside and enjoy the scenery before returning toward Bahir Dar. Continue by road to Gondar, the former imperial capital of Ethiopia. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and relax.

Day 4: Gondar – Royal Heritage & Cultural Discovery
Spend the day exploring the historic treasures of Gondar. Visit Fasil Ghebbi, the impressive royal enclosure containing castles and palaces from the Ethiopian imperial period. Continue to Fasilides’ Bath, Debre Berhan Selassie Church, famous for its ceiling of angel faces, and other historic sites around the city. Gondar’s Fasil Ghebbi is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. In the evening, enjoy traditional Ethiopian cuisine and, if available, a cultural performance.

Day 5: Gondar – Simien Mountains National Park – Sankaber
After breakfast, drive toward Simien Mountains National Park, entering one of Ethiopia’s most spectacular highland landscapes. Continue to Sankaber, where the dramatic escarpments, deep valleys and mountain scenery begin to reveal the character of the Simien Mountains. Take a short nature walk and look for Gelada monkeys, endemic birds and other highland wildlife. The Simien Mountains are one of Ethiopia’s major natural attractions and are recognized as a World Heritage site.

Day 6: Simien Mountains – Scenic Trek – Gondar
Enjoy a morning trek in the Simien Mountains, walking along spectacular viewpoints and escarpments. Depending on weather and trail conditions, the route can include viewpoints around Sankaber, Jinbar or nearby trekking areas. The mountains provide opportunities to observe Gelada baboons, birds of prey and other highland wildlife while enjoying extraordinary panoramic views. After lunch, drive back to Gondar for a comfortable evening.

Day 7: Gondar – Lalibela
After breakfast, transfer to Gondar Airport for your flight to Lalibela. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and begin exploring this extraordinary historic town. Visit part of the famous Lalibela rock-hewn church complex, including Bete Medhane Alem, Bete Maryam and other churches in the northern cluster. The 11 medieval churches of Lalibela are carved directly into the rock and remain active places of worship.

Day 8: Lalibela – Full-Day Rock-Hewn Churches & Local Culture
Continue your exploration of Lalibela with the southern group of churches, including the magnificent Bete Giyorgis (St. George), one of Ethiopia’s most iconic monuments. Walk through the tunnels and passages connecting the churches while learning about their history, architecture and religious significance. In the afternoon, visit the surrounding countryside or a traditional village and experience an authentic Ethiopian coffee ceremony. Lalibela is not simply an archaeological site; it remains a living pilgrimage center where the churches continue to serve local worshippers.

Day 9: Lalibela – Arba Minch
Take a morning flight from Lalibela to Addis Ababa, followed by a connecting flight to Arba Minch in southern Ethiopia. Upon arrival, meet your southern Ethiopia guide and transfer to your hotel. Spend the afternoon relaxing and enjoying the spectacular Rift Valley scenery around Arba Minch.

Day 10: Arba Minch – Dorze Village – Lake Chamo – Konso
After breakfast, travel into the Gamo Highlands to visit a Dorze village. Discover their distinctive traditional houses, famous weaving traditions, farming practices and local cuisine. Continue to Lake Chamo for a boat excursion, where you may encounter Nile crocodiles, hippos and waterbirds. In the afternoon, drive to Konso, a UNESCO-listed cultural landscape known for its impressive stone terraces, traditional settlements and distinctive cultural traditions.

Day 11: Konso – Jinka – Mursi Village
After breakfast, drive south toward Jinka, the gateway to the Lower Omo Valley. After lunch, travel toward Mago National Park and visit a Mursi village. Learn about Mursi culture, traditional livelihoods, cattle keeping, body adornment and community life. Return to Jinka in the afternoon and enjoy a relaxed evening.

Day 12: Jinka – Key Afer Market – Turmi – Hamer Culture
Travel toward Turmi, stopping at Key Afer Market when the visit coincides with the local market day. Experience the colorful atmosphere as people from surrounding communities gather to trade livestock, agricultural products, clothing and handmade items. Continue to Turmi and visit a Hamer village. Learn about traditional Hamer lifestyles, hairstyles, jewelry, livestock and cultural practices. If a traditional bull-jumping ceremony or Evangadi dance takes place during your visit, your guide will arrange the experience when possible. Such ceremonies depend on local community schedules and cannot be guaranteed.

Day 13: Turmi – Karo Village – Omo River
Today, drive toward the Omo River to visit the Karo people, renowned for their distinctive body painting and cultural traditions. Visit a traditional Karo village and learn about their relationship with the Omo River, livestock and surrounding environment. Enjoy spectacular views of the river and the surrounding Omo Valley landscape before returning to Turmi.

Day 14: Turmi – Omorate – Dassanech – Arba Minch
Start early and travel south to Omorate, near the Kenyan border. Cross the Omo River by local boat to reach a traditional Dassanech village. Experience the community’s distinctive lifestyle, traditional houses, clothing, jewelry and relationship with the river. The Lower Omo Valley is recognized by UNESCO for its outstanding cultural and archaeological importance. After the cultural visit, return to Omorate and begin the drive north toward Arba Minch.

Day 15: Arba Minch – Addis Ababa – Departure
After breakfast, enjoy some free time in Arba Minch before transferring to the airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa. Depending on your international flight schedule, enjoy a final Ethiopian coffee ceremony, souvenir shopping or a farewell lunch before transferring to Bole International Airport for your departure.
