Begin in the historic north and witness the spectacular Timket (Ethiopian Epiphany) celebration in Gondar, explore ancient castles, churches and mountain landscapes, then travel south into the Omo Valley to discover the traditions of the Mursi, Hamer, Karo and Dassanech communities.

Day 1: Arrival in Addis Ababa – City & Cultural Experience

Arrive in Addis Ababa, where you will be welcomed by your guide and transferred to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, visit the National Museum, home to the famous fossil remains of Lucy, followed by Holy Trinity Cathedral and a panoramic viewpoint on Mount Entoto. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Ethiopian dinner accompanied by cultural music and dancing.

Overnight: Addis Ababa.

Day 2: Addis Ababa – Gondar – Timket Eve Experience

Take a morning flight from Addis Ababa to Gondar, the former imperial capital of Ethiopia. After arrival, check in and have lunch before exploring Fasil Ghebbi, the magnificent royal enclosure containing castles and palaces from the Gondarine period. Continue to Fasilides’ Bath, the historic site where Gondar’s spectacular Timket celebrations take place. As Timket approaches, experience the festive atmosphere throughout the city, with colorful traditional clothing, church preparations, music and religious processions.

Day 3: Timket Festival – The Grand Ethiopian Epiphany Celebration

Rise early for the main Timket Festival celebration. Join thousands of worshippers and visitors as priests dressed in colorful ceremonial robes carry the Tabot, a sacred replica representing the Ark of the Covenant, toward the ceremonial grounds. At Fasilides’ Bath, experience prayers, chanting, drums, traditional umbrellas and colorful processions as the community celebrates the baptism of Jesus Christ. Spend the day respectfully observing the religious ceremonies, traditional dances and celebrations. Your local guide will explain the meaning of the rituals and help you navigate the busy festival environment.

Overnight: Gondar.

Day 4: Gondar – Simien Mountains National Park

After breakfast, leave Gondar and drive toward Simien Mountains National Park. Enter the park and continue to Sankaber, enjoying spectacular views of deep valleys, dramatic escarpments and rugged peaks. Take a short scenic walk and look for Gelada monkeys, endemic birds and other highland wildlife. Enjoy a peaceful evening surrounded by the spectacular Simien landscape.

Overnight: Simien Mountains.

Day 5: Simien Mountains – Scenic Trek – Gondar

After breakfast, enjoy a morning trek through the Simien Mountains. Walk along the spectacular escarpments and viewpoints while observing the unique highland environment. Depending on weather and trail conditions, the trek can include areas around Sankaber and Jinbar. After lunch, return to Gondar. Spend the afternoon relaxing or exploring the city.

Day 6: Gondar – Lalibela – Rock-Hewn Churches

Take a morning flight from Gondar to Lalibela. After arrival and lunch, begin exploring the extraordinary Lalibela Rock-Hewn Churches. Visit Bete Medhane Alem, Bete Maryam, Bete Maskal and Bete Denagel. Walk through the ancient tunnels and passages connecting the churches and learn about their religious and architectural significance. Continue to Bete Giyorgis (St. George), the famous cross-shaped church carved deep into the rock.

Overnight: Lalibela.

Day 7: Lalibela – Full-Day Heritage Experience – Addis Ababa

After breakfast, continue exploring Lalibela’s remaining churches, including Bete Amanuel, Bete Gabriel-Rufael and Bete Mercoreus. Visit the surrounding countryside and experience an authentic Ethiopian coffee ceremony. Take time to explore local handicrafts and traditional village life. Later, transfer to Lalibela Airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa.

Overnight: Addis Ababa.

Day 8: Addis Ababa – Arba Minch – Rift Valley

Take a morning flight to Arba Minch, the gateway to southern Ethiopia. Upon arrival, meet your southern Ethiopia guide and explore the beautiful Rift Valley surroundings. Depending on arrival time, visit viewpoints overlooking Lake Abaya and Lake Chamo. Spend the afternoon relaxing and preparing for your Omo Valley adventure.

Overnight: Arba Minch.

Day 9: Arba Minch – Dorze Village – Lake Chamo – Konso

After breakfast, drive into the Gamo Highlands to visit a traditional Dorze village. Discover the distinctive Dorze houses, weaving traditions, farming practices and local cuisine. Experience village life and participate in a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony.

Return toward Arba Minch for a Lake Chamo boat excursion, where you may see Nile crocodiles, hippos and numerous waterbirds. Continue to Konso and explore its remarkable terraced landscape and traditional settlements.

Overnight: Konso.

Day 10: Konso – Jinka – Mursi Village

After breakfast, drive south toward Jinka, the gateway to the Lower Omo Valley. After lunch, travel through Mago National Park to visit a traditional Mursi village. Learn about Mursi culture, cattle keeping, traditional body adornment, local livelihoods and community life. Spend time interacting respectfully with community members and learning about their traditions. Return to Jinka in the late afternoon.

Overnight: Jinka.

Day 11: Jinka – Key Afer Market – Turmi – Hamer Village

Travel toward Turmi, stopping at Key Afer Market when the itinerary coincides with the market day. Experience the colorful market where surrounding communities gather to trade livestock, agricultural products, jewelry, clothing and handicrafts. Continue to Turmi and visit a traditional Hamer village. Discover Hamer traditions, hairstyles, jewelry, livestock and daily life. If a bull-jumping ceremony or Evangadi dance is taking place during your visit, your guide will arrange the experience where possible.

Overnight: Turmi.

Day 12: Turmi – Karo Village – Omo River

Today, travel toward the Omo River to visit the Karo people, renowned for their distinctive body painting and cultural traditions. Visit a traditional Karo village and learn about their relationship with the Omo River, agriculture and livestock. Enjoy spectacular views of the Omo River and surrounding lowlands before returning to Turmi.

Overnight: Turmi.

Day 13: Turmi – Omorate – Dassanech Village – Turmi

Travel south to Omorate, close to the Kenyan border. Cross the Omo River by local boat and visit a traditional Dassanech village. Discover their distinctive homes, clothing, jewelry, livelihood and relationship with the river. After the cultural experience, return by boat to Omorate and drive back toward Turmi. Spend the evening relaxing after your Omo Valley adventure.

Overnight: Turmi.

Day 14: Turmi – Konso – Arba Minch

After breakfast, begin the journey north through the changing landscapes of southern Ethiopia. Stop again around Konso for additional cultural experiences or a visit to a traditional settlement if time permits. Continue to Arba Minch, arriving in the afternoon. Relax at your hotel and enjoy a final evening in southern Ethiopia.

Day 15: Arba Minch – Addis Ababa – Departure

After breakfast, transfer to Arba Minch Airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa. Depending on your international departure schedule, enjoy a final Ethiopian coffee ceremony, souvenir shopping or farewell lunch before transferring to Bole International Airport. End of Tour
