Your journey begins in Addis Ababa before flying to the sacred town of Lalibela for the most powerful highlight of the tour, the Eve of Ethiopian Easter celebration inside the legendary rock-hewn churches. Witness thousands of white-clad pilgrims who have completed 55 days of fasting gather for an unforgettable midnight Mass. Experience candlelight processions, ancient Ge’ez chants, rhythmic priestly dances, and deeply spiritual prayers that continue until dawn. As the fast breaks, the entire town burst into joyful celebration, traditional feasting, and community gatherings, a rare and authentic immersion into living faith.
From Lalibela, continue to Axum, the cradle of Ethiopian civilization and home of St. Mary of Zion Church and the Ark of the Covenant tradition. Journey onward through the breathtaking Simien Mountains, the royal castles of Gondar, and the dramatic landscapes of the Rift Valley. The adventure then takes you south to Ethiopia’s vibrant tribal regions, meeting the Dorze, Konso (UNESCO site), Dassanech, Mursi, and Ari communities, offering deep cultural encounters and insight into ancient traditions that still thrive today.

Day 1: Apr. 10, 2026 – Arrival and Sightseeing of Addis (The new Flower)
You will be met upon arrival and transferred to your hotel. Refresh and begin your sightseeing of Addis. The day includes the following highlights:

Entoto Maryam Church: Located on the Entoto Hills, this is one of the oldest Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo churches, built in 1877 by Emperor Menelik II. The church features traditional Ethiopian architecture with octagonal domes. Inside, you’ll find a collection of royal artifacts, including Emperor Menelik II and Empress Taytu’s crowns, ceremonial garments, their royal bed, and a mirror gifted to the Empress by Queen Victoria.

Entoto Hills: At an elevation of 2,900 meters above sea level, the Entoto Hills offer a stunning panoramic view of Addis Ababa. This area, once the capital before the city moved to its current location, holds great historical and spiritual significance.

Ethnological Museum: Situated within the main campus of Addis Ababa University, this museum is housed in the former palace of Emperor Haile Selassie. It offers a deep insight into Ethiopia’s diverse cultures, with exhibits covering anthropology, music, and traditional life. It is also recognized as the first university museum in Ethiopia.

National Museum of Ethiopia: One of the most important museums in sub-Saharan Africa, it showcases Ethiopia’s rich archaeological heritage. Here, you will find the world-famous fossil remains of Lucy (Australopithecus afarensis), as well as Selam, a remarkably complete child hominid fossil estimated to be 3.3 million years old.

Merkato: Conclude your day with a visit to Africa’s largest open-air market. Established during the Italian occupation in the late 1930s, Merkato spans several square miles and hosts over 7,000 businesses. It offers a dynamic experience of the city’s daily life, where you can find everything from spices and textiles to handmade crafts and electronics.

Day 2: Apr. 11, 2026 – Lalibela – Eve Of Ethiopian Easter
In the morning you will continue your journey into Ethiopia’s long and marvelous past with a visit to other St. Lalibela’s remarkable churches. The rock-hewn churches that you will visit this afternoon include: Bete Gebriel, Bete Mercorios Bete Amanuel, Bethlehem and Bete Aba Libanos. In the afternoon, you will visit one of the most colorful annual Easter Market at Lalibela. In the evening, you will witness one of the most important ceremonies of Easter in one of the biggest rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, Bete Medhanialem. In the evening all the rock-hewn churches will be filled with people who have been fasting for 55 days. None of them have eaten anything at least a day and half without any water and food. They are here to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and there will be prayers and candlelight ceremonies accompanied by chanting and dancing of the priest until 3:00 in the morning. It’s only after the ceremony is over that everybody goes home to break the fasting with the special Easter meal and the feast which has begun at the church continues all day long and the weeks to come. Day 3: Apr. 12, 2026 – Fly Lalibela – Axum
You will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Axum. A city more than 2500 years of history, once the center of a great empire and ancient civilization, home of the original Ark of covenants, Axum is the prime historical site in the north of Ethiopia. Take a city tour that include the St. Mary’s Church, the sanctuary Chapel which is the repository of the ‘Ark of covenant’, the coronation yard, Stelae Park, Tomb of Kaleb and his son Gebre Meskel, Ezana’s Inscriptions, Queen of Sheba’s Bath, Queen of Sheba’s palace ruins and Axum Museum. Overnight in Axum.
Day 4: Apr. 13, 2026 – Drive Axum to Simen Mountain
After having our early breakfast we will be driving to Semein Mountain. This is a sight, which is termed as the most wild and magnificent view all Ethiopian landscapes. The Semien Mountains National park is the only place in Ethiopia registered by the UNESCO as a natural beauty. Observe the magnificent scenery. Overnight in Debarq
Day 5: Apr. 14, 2026 – Drive Debarq – Gondar (The Camelot of Africa)
After having your breakfast, you will begin your journey to Gondar. The Royal Capital of Ethiopia, Gondar was founded in 1636 by Emperor Fassiladas. In the afternoon you will visit the city of Gondar on the drive to the Castles and Churches built by Emperor Fassiladas and his descendants. Proceed to the fascinating Debre Birhan Selassie (The Enlightening of Trinity) with wonderful murals art, Qusquam Church. Overnight in Gondar.
Day 6: Apr. 15, 2026 – Fly to Addis Ababa
Spend a relaxed morning before you will be transferred to the airport to catch up your flight to Addis Ababa Overnight in Addis Ababa. Up on arrival in Addis Ababa transfer to your hotel. Overnight in Addis Ababa.
Day 7: Apr. 16, 2026 – Drive Addis Ababa – Awassa
After breakfast we will drive to Hawassa. On the way you have a chance to visit Abijatta-Shalla National Park. It contains 887 square kilometers including Abijatta and Shalla two alkaline lakes. The habitat of Abijatta-Shalla National Park contains open grasslands, dry savannas, arid shrub lands and that were dominated by Acacia trees, which include umbrella thorn acacias, red acacias and gum acacias. You will see Grant’s gazelles, Common Warthogs, the park is also home to 300 species of birds that are listed as endemics, residents, and migratory. Common Ostriches and Somali Ostriches are mostly common for their breeding. Overnight Awassa
Day 8: Apr. 17, 2026 – Drive Hawassa to Arba Minch
After breakfast you will visit Hawassa Lake, 16 km long and 9 km wide, with a surface area of 129 square kilometers. It has a maximum depth of 10 meters and is located at an elevation of 1,708 meters. The local Fish Market and different kinds of bird watching at Amora Gedele After lunch you will drive to Dorze people who are expert in weaving called Shammas Weaving are a primary profession for a number of Dorze people. The shape of their house looks Elephant, to remember the existence of these animals around the area many years ago. They are known for their traditional weaving of huts made out of local bamboo. Enset “fake banana” is the stable food for these peoples. Overnight Arba Minch
Day 9: Apr. 18, 2026 – Drive Arba Minch – Konso – Turmi
After having your breakfast you will take a boat cruise on the Lake Chamo, the third biggest Lake in Ethiopia you will have a boat trip to see the crocodiles, hippos & aquatic bird species. The northern shores of Lake Chamo are famous for its large crocodiles, which can be seen in numbers lounging in the heat. The lake is about 32km long and provides a lush wetland habitat for many species of flora and fauna. Visit and proceed southwards to Konso village, one of the UNESCO site in Ethiopia know by their terracing in order to protect against soil erosion from the sporadic and often heavy rainfall in the region. The villages are encircled by one to six concentric rings of stone walls, mainly consisting of basalt boulders. The age of each town is classified by a generation pole and each family lives in compounds that are accessible only through gateways that require the visitor to enter on all fours thereby rendering any potential attackers vulnerable. One of the best types of coffee for the country is also from this village. Later drive to Turmi. Overnight in Turmi
Day 10: Apr. 19, 2026 – Drive Turmi – Omorate – Jinka
After breakfast you will drive to Omorate crosses the Omo River to visit the Dassanech tribe only 72 Km from Turmi, Dassanech are traditional pastoralists, but in recent years began to move to a semi-nomadic way of life. The highest expression of male beauty is the vulgar transverse scars across the entire chest and back, resembling crocodile skin. Such scars are inflicted on a body of the warrior who showed himself heroically in battle, who killed the enemy in course of tribal cattle raids. After lunch you will drive to Key Afer to visit the Mursi village, the Mursi women, like their Surma cousins, live on the other bank of the Omo River, are famous for their large round (and not only) lip plates worn by women. There are several theories of the wearing of lip plates: disfiguring to prevent enslavement by Arabs in antiquity; protection against the penetration of evil spirits into the body through the mouth; determination of social status, showing the amount of cattle that the groom must pay as a dowry for the bride owning the plate. Mursi are unsurpassed masters of scarification. The scars on their bodies symbolize social status and past merits. The scars are created by using a razor blade and camel thorn. To achieve a bulge, an ash or a fly larva is planted in the wound, which, among other things, eliminates all possible infections. Later, drive to Jinka. Overnight Jinka.
Day 11: Apr. 20, 2026 – Jinka-Welayta Sodo
Early in the morning we will visit the villages of Ari Tribes and we will have a chance of seeing how they are making pottery and weaving later we will be driving to the town of Welayta Sodo for dinner and overnight. Overnight in Sodo.
Day 12: Apr. 21, 2026 – Welayta Sodo- Addis Ababa-Departure
In the morning we will be driving to Addis Ababa on the way we will see the UNESCO site of Tiya stlea then we will be driving to the Rock Hewan Churches of Adadi Maryam(a church built by st Lalibela) continue our driving to Addis Ababa Descend down and drive to National museum where you will have a chance to spot the oldest hominids of ‘Lucy’ fossil. Visit and proceed to the Holy Trinity built during WWII. Then proceed to merkato, the biggest market in East Africa. In the evening attend a folkloric dinner where you will have a chance to taste several national dishes and watch dances of the various ethnic groups of Ethiopia. The traditional coffee ceremony will also be served. Later you will be transferred to the airport for your departure.
