Day 1: Dire Dawa – Harar – Historic City & Hyena Feeding

Begin your journey with a drive from Dire Dawa to Harar, approximately 1–1.5 hours depending on traffic and road conditions. Upon arrival, enter Harar Jugol, the historic walled city. Walk through its narrow, atmospheric streets and explore the colorful traditional architecture. Visit the Harari Cultural Museum, where you can learn about the unique traditions, and architecture, clothing and daily life of the Harari people. Continue to Rimbaud House, a historic landmark associated with the French poet Arthur Rimbaud, and visit some of Harar’s ancient mosques and colorful local markets.

In the afternoon, explore the famous Harari traditional houses, known for their beautifully decorated interiors and distinctive architectural style. As evening approaches, travel to the outskirts of the city for the unforgettable Hyena Feeding Ceremony. Watch local hyena feeders interact with wild hyenas as they approach for food a unique tradition that has become one of Harar’s best-known experiences.

Day 2: Harar – Markets, Culture & Dire Dawa

After breakfast, continue exploring the historic city. Walk through the colorful Harar market, where you can see local spices, coffee, traditional clothing, handicrafts and everyday products. Visit additional historic mosques and explore the old city walls and gates. Take time to interact with local artisans and learn about Harari coffee culture, one of the distinctive traditions of eastern Ethiopia.

Enjoy a traditional Ethiopian lunch before departing Harar for Dire Dawa. Upon arrival in Dire Dawa, depending on your departure schedule, visit the historic Kezira district, known for its distinctive railway-era architecture, or explore the local market. Transfer to Dire Dawa Airport for your onward flight. End of service
