Day 1 – Dec 27 | Fly Addis Ababa – Arba Minch | Konso & Hamer Tribe
Morning flight from Addis Ababa to Arba Minch. Upon arrival, meet your driver-guide and begin the scenic drive south toward Turmi.
En route, visit the Konso Cultural Landscape (UNESCO World Heritage Site), famous for its stone terraces, fortified villages, and unique community traditions.
Continue to Turmi and in the afternoon visit the Hamer tribe, well known for their distinctive hairstyles, body decoration, and rich cultural ceremonies.
Overnight: Paradise Lodge, Turmi
Day 2 – Dec 28 | Karo Tribe & Nyangatom Tribe
After breakfast, drive toward the Omo River to visit the Karo tribe, renowned for their elaborate body painting and scarification practices.
Continue south to visit the Nyangatom tribe, a semi-nomadic pastoral community closely tied to cattle herding and riverine life.
Return to Turmi in the late afternoon. Overnight: Turmi
Day 3 – Dec 29 | Dasanech Tribe | Mursi Tribe | Drive to Arba Minch
Early morning drive to Omorate to visit the Dasanech tribe, who live along the banks of the Omo River near the Kenyan border.
After the visit, begin the drive north toward Arba Minch.
En route, visit the Mursi tribe (subject to accessibility), famous for their traditional lip plates and strong cultural identity.
Continue to Arba Minch in the evening. Overnight: Haile Resort, Arba Minch
Day 4 – Dec 30 | Lake Chamo Boat Trip & Dorze Village | Fly to Addis Ababa
After breakfast, enjoy a boat trip on Lake Chamo inside Nech Sar National Park, home to large crocodiles, hippos, and diverse birdlife.
Later, drive to the Dorze village, known for its impressive beehive-shaped houses and traditional weaving culture.
In the afternoon, transfer to Arba Minch Airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa. Overnight: Addis Ababa
Day 5 – Dec 31 | Fly Addis Ababa – Semera | Danakil Depression
Morning flight to Semera. On arrival, meet the Afar expedition team and begin the journey into the Danakil Depression.
Drive through the Afar lowlands, witnessing dramatic desert scenery, volcanic formations, and vast salt plains. Overnight: Camping in the Danakil Depression
Day 6 – Jan 1 | Full Day Danakil Depression Exploration
Full-day exploration of one of the most extreme landscapes on Earth.
Visit Dallol’s colorful sulfur formations, Lake Assale salt flats and observe traditional Afar salt-mining activities. Overnight: Camping in the Danakil Depression
Day 7 – Jan 2 | Danakil – Semera | Fly to Addis Ababa
Morning exploration, then drive back to Semera for your flight to Addis Ababa.
Transfer to your hotel on arrival. Overnight: Aya Hotel, Addis Ababa
Day 8 – Jan 3 | Addis Ababa City Tour | Departure
After breakfast, enjoy a guided Addis Ababa city tour, visiting:
- National Museum
- Holy Trinity Cathedral
